Otoplasty Before & After: Improved Ear Symmetry

Otoplasty #7

Otoplasty ear reshaping surgery may also be considered for achieving improved ear symmetry. Our beautiful patient’s left ear stuck out more than her right and surgery was performed on both ears. In our practice, we use clear, permanent nylon sutures on the back of the ear to create a less distracting and pleasing appearance. Three to six sutures are typically for each ear, depending on the problem. If there is a deep conchal bowl, three “conchal setback sutures” are used. If there is unfurling of the antihelix, three Mustarde sutures are used. The surgery takes around 2 hours for both ears.
